Relaxing
After a Hard Days Work!
Consider enrolling your child
in a classroom that teaches learning by direct, hands-on experience
only! A Woolly Classroom at Mt. Bruce Station, does exactly this
and more!
The
school has been established to move us toward a more humane and
sustainable future because our young people, in particular, are
isolated from the land and deprived of the joys and responsibilities
it teaches. Our school teaches sustainability, creativity and
responsibility through hard work. In return, your child will
develop pride in what they do! Our working classes on the farm
teach young people the interwoven pleasures of relationships.
They will learn the enjoyment of working with others while nurturing
abilities towards leadership and decision making. Our teaching
method accomplishes this further through the care of the animals
and gardens, inspiring them to respect and care for the land,
their communities, and themselves. Participation in the program
will help cultivate in your child an appreciation for season
and place. We will develop the natural inborn talents in your
child that will stay with them for the rest of their natural
life.
From
9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Saturday mornings, your child will
spend time with others feeding and watering the sheep, doing
other farm animal care and maintenance, animal observations and
record keeping. Our curriculum changes seasonally to allow your
child to learn and develop throughout the year. Your creative
child will be involved in hands-on experiments, garden and creek
exploration, harvesting, problem solving, nature trail walks,
various art forms, and helping in the daily operations of a working
farm.

We
now include in our annual schedule and invite you to become involved.
It is a pleasure to teach children and they are quick to learn.
Our facilities are excellent, with a dye house to serve as a
classroom, a hay loft to take a snack break in, and of course
because we are not just a "petting farm" there is a
lot for you to learn about sheep and fibers. At the busy pace
we live our lives today a countryside experience is often neglected
and this is an opportunity for them to become exposed to some
plain and simple rural pleasures.
"Thank you so deeply for
the wonderful time you gave our Sunday School class, Cornerstone
Baptist Church. It was truly one of the very nicest outings we
have had together. You did a marvelous job telling us in detail
how you care for your sheep ... and the life of a 'shepherd'.
We especially enjoyed being up close to one of your Jacob lambs
... and watching your dog out in the field. It was a wonderful
afternoon. Your farm is simply beautiful ... the grounds are
stunning, and we girls remarked we don't know how you take care
of everything, as it is gorgeous."
